SOME STUFFS: Hunx & His Punx promise to rock’n’roll you with their girl group sound

When I read a press release, I normally try to write from it and not do a simple cut-n-paste. However, the first sentence in the press release for this man had me laughing a bit:

Hunx and His Punx might be the first ever “girl group” fronted by a flamboyant gay male whose dream in life is to sound like a girl.

Interesting, but will that work? Why not? Hunx, along with his Punx, will be proving themselves to all ears when they play a small handful of shows in September. Check out the dates and if you’re in these cites and have nothing to do, or are at a Motel 6 hoping to catch your favorite David Spade film (pfftt), turn it off and head out to see Hunx & His Punx.
September 13… Pomona, CA @ The Glasshouse
September 14… San Diego, CA @ San Diego Music Thing
September 15… Los Angeles, CA @ Los Globos
September 16… Las Vegas, NV @ Neon Reverb After-Party Pool Party

Hunx is the man some of you may know as Seth Bogart, who spent time as the leader of Gravy Train!!!! (four exclamation points, always), so what kind of music could come from a guy in a girl band? For one, Hunx shares his love of bubblegum pop and garage rock, so it’s very much true to the sounds of the music of the 1950’s and 1960’s, a mixture of innocence, subtle debauchery, and all around good times. It’s the kind of music people like Rodney Bingenheimer or Narduwar The Human Serviette might rave about, or what you might’ve found in the Sympathy For The Record Industry discography next to The Muffs and The 5, 6, 7, 8’s, with a pinch of The Bangles and Joe “King” Carrasco. You can hear it for yourself by listening to/downloading the track below, taken from the appropriately titled album Hairdresser Blues (Hardly Art), the cover of which looks like it was borrowed from a beauty salon (think the cover artwork for the Rolling Stones’ Some Girls).
