 photo MonsterRally_cover_zps55a4fd7a.jpg
If you missed out on picking up Monster Rally’s Coral album on vinyl, Gold Robot have done a repressing of it that will be released in May. Originally released on January 11, 2011, Coral was the album that helped bring attention to Monster Rally in a major way and with requests for the record, it was decided that another batch be pressed up for those who want it. The first pressing of 250 were all on sea foam green vinyl, but this new pressing of 500 will all be on standard black. Pre-orders are available from Gold Robot’s web store.

Also have a listen to “Color Sky” and/or “Champagne/Holiday”, which are both available as a free download while supplies last.

VIDEO: Hot16 featuring Vursatyl’s “Turned Away”

Portland producer Hot16 has released an EP called 1983 (Liquid Beat), which may refer to an era in hip-hop, a means of inspiration, or a way to look back so one can properly look forward. I think after hearing the EP itself, it’ll be realized it’s a combination of all three, and then some. He looked into his hometown to find Lifesavas MC Vursatyl to assist in in the extra nice “Turned Away”.

BOOK’S FOODIE: Wheat or White? | The Lexicon of Sustainability (from PBS Food)

What are the differences between wheat and white bread? There may be obvious answers but perhaps it’s the not-so-obvious ones that will surprise you. Food is being evaluated and re-evaluated, and in the latest edition of The Lexicon Of Sustainability a few things are addressed and answered. This comes courtesy of PBS Food.

VIDEO: Major Lazer featuring Moska & RDX’s “Lose Yourself”

Say what you want about Diplo, but are you also talking about his music at all? Are you really listening? “Lose Yourself” is from Major Lazer’s new EP Apocalypse Soon (Secretly Canadian/Mad Decent) and this one is very much on the level of being another juicer for everyone involved.

The vinyl and CD pressings of Apocalypse Soon will be released next week Tuesday.

FREE MP3 DL: Kat O1O’s “MeowMix Retrospective Vol. 1”

Her music is very much a part of her resume, and Kat Ouano has done a lot of music in the last 15 years. With new ventures in front of her, she has decided to put together a compilation of some highlights of that input in what she is calling MeowMix Retrospective Vol. 1. The second volume will follow next week so if you only know of the Kat O1O vibe but haven’t heard it yet, it’s the perfect time to do so and get down.

VIDEO: Zoo Brother featuring Atlas Murphy’s “Psychic Whatever”

Zoo Brother started in the summer of 2012 as the solo project of William Karmis is how the press release started for “Psychic Whatever”, the new video by Karmis, a/k/a Zoo Brother. The song is taken from his Gemini Girl EP, although the song can be downloaded via Bandcamp below for free or using the “Name Your Price” option. As for the song, imagine Beck if he was trained by Pharrell Williams and Barry Manilow. You can thank Atlas Murphy for that, or you don’t have to.

Gemini Girl can also be downloaded for free as well.

 photo Jumalhaumlmaumlrauml_cover_zps05ab1869.jpg
Finland’s Jumalhämärä released an album last year called Resitaali but that hasn’t slowed them from coming up with a new project, this one called Songless Shores, with its focus being the 18-minute title track. You can click an MP3 excerpt of the piece by clicking here. The CD for Songless Shores will be packaged as a digipak and will be released on April 18th.

RECORD CRACK: Satan’s Satyrs return with first music in two years

 photo SatanSatyrs_PS_zps5dd2381a.jpg
Die Screaming marks the return of Satan’s Satyrs, who have been dormant since they released their last album Wild Beyond Believe. When I read a descriptions that involves a “three-dimensional orgy of forbidden delights”, I want and have to know more. Bluesy, trippy, psychedelic, and far out are some of the ways you can describe the heaviness of this band, who are previewing the album with a 7″ single on Trash King Productions, “Black Souls” b/w “There’s No Escapin’ (The Power Of Satan)”. The record will be pressed on both black and orange vinyl, with only 300 copies being done for the orange version. Pre-orders are being taken now towards its release in April. Head to TrashKingProductions.com for ordering information, and click the Bandcamp player for a listen to “Black Souls” in the flesh.

VIDEO: Hazel Rose’s “Heartbeat”

This song is quite good until it hits the Auto-Tune but if you can go beyond that, Hazel Rose’s “Heartbeat” sounds like it could become the heartbeat of many dance floors around the world. It has a nice Latin touch to it with slight hits of disco to keep the juices flowing, which means an energetic time when heard on its own or within different mixes played in the clubs. Rose was a member of the Bay Area hip-hop group 40 Love but with her new album 9 Lives she is showing she can be so much more than a rapper. Let’s hope others will agree.
