Seattle has been getting its share of attention after the success of Macklemore but in order to stay in touch, you have to dig deeper. The same can be said for the hip-hop scene in Portland, which has been giving us artists like Gen. Erik, Ozone, Serge Seveere, and Braille over the years. If you want to know about someone else from Rose City, say hello to Mikey Vegaz. He’s about to drop a new album packed with 21 new songs called Confessions Of A Hustler, letting you know about a side of Portland you may be completely unaware about. He’s done his share of shows with the likes of Too $hort, Tech N9ne and E-40 and now he wants to let people know that after getting a bit of Unsigned Hype eight years ago by The Source, he is not to be messed with in that way. But you can mess with him in the sense that you want to hear him or perhaps collaborate with the man. Then please do. The Portland hip-hop scene is strong, so get a chance to know it and Mikey Vegaz a lot more.

VIDEO: Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright”

Easily from one of the best albums of the year, “Alright” is the new one from rapper Kendrick Lamar, taken from his album To Pimp A Butterfly. This is easily one of the best music videos of the year too, of any genre, so have a look and listen.

SOME STUFFS: Los Colognes preparing to unleash a new dose with “Dos”

Los Colognes photo LosColognes_old_zpszkwcztya.jpg
You might see a band with a name like Los Colognes and perhaps automatically assume they are from Los Angeles, San Diego, Texas, or perhaps directly from Mexico. How about if I told you they are from Nashville? If you’re already a fan of their music, then you know what they’re about and if you have been waiting for the group to release something else after enjoying their debut, then read on. Los Colognes will be out with a new album on the 4th of September called Dos (Theory 8), which of course means it is their second album and will become part 2 of their musical adventures. The band produced the project themselves with engineer Billy Bennett, and you may have a listen to the first hit from it, “Backseat Driver”.

Los Colognes have some shows coming up later this summer and there will most likely be more dates when the album gets closer to release, so plan ahead and enjoy the new music in a live setting:
August 7-9… Appleton, WI (Miles of Music Festival)
September 4… Nashville, TN (The Basement East)
September 5… Knoxville, TN (Barley’s Taproom)
September 17… Nashville, TN (Americana Music Conference)
September 18-20… Bristol, TN (Bristol Roots & Rhythm)
September 22… Brooklyn, NY (Factory)
October 1… Chicago, IL (Schuba’s)

VIDEO: D-Shep’s “Sidewayz”

D-Shep photo DSHep_old_zpsnlcht0ne.jpg
You can say D-Shep is not through with the two-step, not by any means. His new one is called “Sidewayz” and is produced by O.Horn, who is not part of the Trevor Horn family of artists but is repsenting things in his own way. The song will be released on D-Shep’s album Seek And Destroy, which means he will be ready to kill ’em all if he has to but he’s going to hold back in an attempt to spread his music to as much people as possible.

SOME STUFFS: Ilyas to release new solo project

If you’re a longtime fan of Tanya Mrogan, then you’re very aware of one of the components. Ilyas Nashid and Donwill were great at what they did but they are no more, allowing both of them to explore other options. One of those options is Ilyas putting together an album with producer Quintessence James and it will be released in a few weeks. It’s called Transformation Part 1: Ego, the title of which suggests a Part 2 is on its way and will be. For now, get familiar with the first part by listening to “Prologue (Away Too Long)”.

VIDEO: Myrkur’s “Onde Børn”

Cille Hannibal & Olivia Frølich directed this new one by Myrkur called “Onde Børn”, which may be a new and unique song for some of you but what to you think? Quite harmonius? It definitely has a chilling effect, doesn’t it? The song will be released on their forthcoming Relapse album called M, scheduled for release on August 21st.
