May 20th is when the new album by Clara Hill will be released, called Pendulus Moon but a month before that, she is dropping the first single from it. It’s called “Lonely Glow”. No audio previews yet so you now have to wait… with your mind.
This is the new Janelle Monáe song and video and as you can clearly see, she has a new vibrant look, as well as a new sound. Will this appeal to her older fans or did she just get bored with herself and wanted to cater to a younger audience? More importantly, will this work and will she move out of this with her next album or is this where Monáe will be staying for the rest of her life? Is the use of yoga offensive in this context? Can you be in context but then get out of context for the sake of selling a song and making a pitch? Whatever it is, it’s here to stay and it’s possible that this may be the embarrassing song from Monáe forthcoming album The Eephus and that something far better will be the second single. We will see but I can tell you that the song here also features Jidenna.
With a tight drum sample courtesy of Billy Garner’s “I Got Some”, Yaves shoots out a blast of a song with “Revolver”, which features vocalist Keisha Soleil. Watch out when they perform this song near you, they may very well snatch you off stage.
Let’s get a few things cleared out of the way. Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are working together, maybe some of you are aware of this. They have a new EP coming out at the end of the month called Deeper (Madlib Invazion) with two new songs and two bonus beats. Check.
The two are hard at work on putting together a full length album, which they’re going to call Piñata, with a scheduled release date of February 4, 2014. This will most likely be one of the more anticipated albums of 2014, of any month and season, because of those who will also be on it: Scarface, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester The Saint, G-Wiz, Danny Brown, Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech (of Flatbush Zombies), and Raekwon.
Even with the album five months away, they’re touring right now, or at least Freddie Gibbs is, Madlib might be in Venezuela checking out some caves for records but either way, this is where (t)he(y) will be, doing some Rock The Bells dates with some Australasian dates in between:
September 8… San Bernadino, CA (San Manuel Amphitheater – Rock the Bells)
September 14… Mountain View, CA… (Shoreline Amphitheater – Rock the Bells)
September 18… Fitzroy, Australia (Laundry Bar)
September 19… Wellington, New Zealand (James Cabaret)
September 20… Auckland, New Zealand (The Studio)
September 21-22… Sydney, Australia (OutsideIn Festival)
September 28… Washington, D.C. (RFK Stadium Festival Grounds – Rock the Bells)
October 4… East Rutherford, NJ (Meadowlands Racetrack Grass Infields – Rock the Bells)
People who are in tune with 9th Wonder’s Jamla label know how much he and others have been pushing for people to become aware of Rapsody. Songs with her have been dropped here and there, and then word of an album materializing was out. The album has finally been released for all to hear, and best of all, she’s making it available for free. It’s called She Got Game and it’s safe to say when you, your main man and your mama hears this, they will all repeat the name of this album. The entire package is hosted by DJ Drama with a wide range of special guests and producers, and now you can take it for a car test, courtesy of DatPiff.
