AUDIO: Funky Christmas’ “XXX-MasS Vol. 11”
A man named Funky Christmas has been known for his mixes of Christmas music for those who like to groove and he has made another one. This one is called XXX-MasS Vol.11, subtitled A-Funky-Howdy-Doody-Xmas. How funky is it? It has a bit of the old, the new, the known, and the “I can’t believe their music is in this” but it is.
AUDIO: Johnny Stewart’s “Flesh Blood Skin & Bones”
Are you in the mood for “raw thrash blues”? Did you even know you wanted some “raw thrash blues”? Then have a taste from Johnny Stewart, a nice rock touch with a hit of abrasiveness that is close to being abusive but very nice, if that makes any sense. This is the kind of music that is sorely missing on today’s radio, unless you listen to a radio station that plays rock blues like this. Maybe this song will save the airwaves, check out “Flesh Blood Skin & Bones”.

RECORD CRACK: Bonnie Raitt’s “Nick Of Time” to be reissued on 180g vinyl
In honor of the album’s 25th anniversary, Bonnie Raitt’s Grammy winning album from 1989, Nick Of Time, will be reissued on vinyl. The new vinyl pressing, on 180g audiophile vinyl, will be released on July 21st and was remastered from the original master tapes, overseen by album producer Don Was and engineer Ed Cherney.
The original 1989 vinyl pressing on Capitol isn’t bad either, especially since the length is just under 43 minutes and was done on regular 140g standard/stock vinyl. I never had any issues with it, but if you wish to have it on a thicker/more sturdier record, you’ll want to pick up the new pressing, being released by Capitol/USM (Universal). You may pre-order your copy or two below via Amazon.com.
SOME STUFFS: Audio Fidelity to release remasters of George Benson and “Super Session”
They are cherished albums in the world of jazz and blues rock respectively, and despite how many copies you have seen of this around everywhere, you definitely haven’t heard them like this. Audio Fidelity are releasing audiophile hybrid SACD remasters of George Benson’s Breezin’ and the Mike Bloomfield/Al Kooper/Stephen Stills album known to many as Super Session.
Benson’s 1975 album is the one that helped moved him to the pop charts with his renditions of “This Masquerade” and the title track, a song that you could pretty much hear everywhere on the radio. The 5.1 mix was done by Doug Sax.
Super Session is an album that has carried a reputation for the guitarists that are on it, along with their performances of each song. In hip-hop circles, many will recognize “Season Of The Witch” as being sampled by The Pharcyde. The 5.1 mix was done by Bob Ludwig. For both CD’s, the stereo mixes were both mastered by Steve Hoffman, so you should know very well how this will sound. How will it compare to the MFSL audio pressing? Just wait and see/hear. Both SACD’s are scheduled for release on August 5th.

VIDEO: Amy Lynn & The Gunshow’s “Don’t Trip On The Glitter”
“Don’t Trip On The Glitter” is the title track for the debut album by Amy Lynn & The Gunshow and can I just say that as someone who has been a fan of her and the band for the last few years, I find it hard to believe that only now they’re coming out with their debut. If you love gritty soul with a hint of blues, you’re going to love what this lady offers, and she offers a bit of that in the very glittery video below. Don’t Trip On The Glitter will be released on the 29th of April, pre-orders are available from Bandcamp below.
