RECORD CRACK: Boris’ “Pink” album celebrates 10th anniversary this year with a deluxe edition

Boris photo Boris-P_old_zpsdxhi9tec.jpg
It has been ten years since Japan sludge rock trio Boris have released their album Pink and in honor of its 10th anniversary, they are going to release it as a deluxe edition in both the vinyl and CD formats. The LP will be a 3-record set while the compact disc version will be a double disc. The covers for each is just a slight variation of one another, with the vinyl pressing on the left, CD on the right.
 photo Boris-Pink_covers_zpsjkekblll.jpg

What makes this a deluxe is in addition to a new remaster of Pink, there is an additional album called Pink Sessions “Forbidden Songs” featuring previously unreleased songs done during the Pink session. Here’s the track listing for that:

1. Your Name Part 2
2. Heavy Rock Industry
3. Sofun
4. Non/Sha/Lant
5. Room Noise
6. Talisman
7. N.F.Sorrow
8. Are You Ready?
9. Tiptoe

To give you a slice of the newness, have a listen to track #2 on Pink Sessions “Forbidden Songs” called “Are You Ready?”.

To make things even better, the band are returning to North America for a tour in honor of the reissue that will be released on July 8th so set your coordinates, they’re ready to celebrate and Earth will be joining them on all dates except for the two shows in Canada. Shitstorm will be joining them on all shows, it’s a festival of rock, noise, and mayhem:

AUDIO: Boris’ “Heavy Rain”/Merzbow’s “Goloka Pt. 2”

This is going to be a trippy album. From Japan, we bring together the band Boris and experimentalist Merzbow. Their new album is called Gensho (Relapse) and will be released as a double CD or a quadruple LP set. On one half of the record you have new material from Boris, doing their harsh style of music with a sense of beauty. On the other half of the record you have Merzbow doing his noisy adventures. What you’re supposed to do is play them together at once.

Sounds weird? Maybe but it sounds very cool. In this case, here is Boris’ “Heavy Rain” and as you will hear, the song is like the full album: percussion-less. You can listen to it as is. You also have “Goloka Pt. 2” by Merzbow, nothing but noise, as he is known for. If you are a noise enthusiast, you may get into this nicely. Now, you play both songs together. That is Gensho, which translates to “phenomenon” so by being involved with this, you are a part of this audio phenomenon.

REVIEW: Boris’ “Noise”

photo BorisN_cover_zps8207361d.jpg Even though their latest album is called Noise (Sargent House), Boris’ latest album is less about the noise and very much more harmonious, which is a part of what they have been diving in to in the last few years. It’s quite nice actually, when the band have been getting into different things in the last few years and they’re not just one type of band for the duration of the album, they’re able to bounce in and out of things without fear or regret. The noise in this case may be a collective one, simply sounds that make noise for the sake of doing so although one could consider this noise in a vulgar way if they’re not into heavy metal. Even the 19 minute “Angel” could be listened as an umbrella statement on what Boris and this album is about, a willingness to move around with the fan, in order to go on a trip and take the listeners to wherever they go. Then “Quicksilver” is a speedy trip into a blitzkrieg, which is why “Siesta” (the album closer) follows the song, allowing the listener to rest and metaphorically take a time out to sleep. These guys continue to test themselves and then go beyond, and it’s a diverse listener, which I hope will be a reason for more people to listen to them and become fans.

SOME STUFFS: Boris in U.S. for “residency” tour

Boris began their U.S. tour two days ago, and as they are here moving from coast to coast, some of the shows will be part of a residency. This means if you live in specific cities, you will have two chances to see them, each time being different from the other. The tour is being called “from the past, the present and through to the future”, as one night will feature the band playing classics and new material, while the other night will have the band playing the majority of their Flood album, followed by an experimental/drone/noise sex. FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD: Boris’ “Spoon”

Photobucket
If you’re a Boris fan, you’re interested in downloading this track but you might be thinking “wait, I have both of their new albums, what is this from?” “Spoon” (11.4mb) is going to be on the band’s new album, aptly called New Album (Sargent House), which means they will have released three albums in a year.
http://swift.fm/e?s=145802

New Album is being described by their PR people as “extreme pop”, although if you’re a diehard Boris fan, you might have picked it up via import (or if you’re in Japan, at your local store). It will be released in the U.S. on November 25th.

As a reminder, Boris will start their North American tour this Friday in San Luis Obispo, California, so if you haven’t bought tickets yet, please consider checking this incredible band out.

VIDEO: Boris’ “Hope/Riotsugar”

Boris ‘Hope – Riotsugar’ from TERROREYES.TV on Vimeo.

“Hope – Riotsugar” shows the two sides Boris are playing with on their two brand new albums. One seems very reserved and understated yet just as intense, while the other is the classic Boris fans have come to love. Both are there to enjoy, and you can enjoy it more by watching more and more.
