SOME STUFFS: Dent May gets festive with a new song

 photo DentMay_old_zpsa9e6774d.jpg
Dent May’s latest album is called Warm Blanket (Paw Tracks) but this holiday song is not on it. Instead, it’s for your ears right now or whatever you want to listen to it. It’s timely and is titled “I’ll Be Stoned For Christmas”, and it doesn’t have to be just in your dreams. Or you can dream about it and pour bongwater all over yourself, turn it into your deodorant.

FREE MP3 DL: Dent May’s “Let Them Talk (Teengirl Fantasy Remix)”

 photo DentMay_old_zpsf2ce30a0.jpg
A house remix of a Dent May song may sound insane, but it has happened and you can thank Teengirl Fantasy for this reality. The original version is the third single from his latest album (his second), Warm Blanket (Paw Tracks) but who knows, maybe he’ll find a new audience amongst house fans. “Dent, I’ll house you, you’re in my hut now” will become the new anthem at his shows. Or not, but it’s a nice revision of one of his songs.

RECORD CRACK: A bit of “Cool” is what Calvin Love will offer with new single

 photo CalvinLove_old_zpsab7f035d.jpg
The press release for Calvin Love’s forthcoming record states that he will be releasing his “first debut 7″ single”, but I think you can only have a first debut, not a second or third. Nonetheless, Love has some talent and wants to make an impression on people, and he will do this with “Cool” b/w “Wild Blue” through Hit City U.S.A. on October 17th.

VIDEO: Dent May’s “Born Too Late”

 photo DentMay_old_zpsec11f5f1.jpg
There are times when I’ll look at certain events of the past, specifically before I was born, and will think that I was born too late. I would have loved to experience some of those things in real time, or my time, rather than it be something in a book or blog. I then realize that despite its share of ups and downs, I’ve had a fairly decent life so far, where I have fond memories but I very much represent the now and look forward to the future. Perhaps Dent May has gone through some of these thoughts in an introspective manner, and he wanted to put them into song with what he calls “Born Too Late”. The video was directed and edited by by Carson Culver, and was made for a song from his recently released Paw Tracks LP, Warm Blanket.

If you’d like to see and hear May in and out of a carnival scenario, you’ll be able to see him live in a few weeks with a tour. There are some additions to the tour as announced in July, they are indicated here in bold print:

SOME STUFFS: Dead Gaze passes a gander with his debut album

If you were an artist and went by the name Dead Gaze, would you let the photographer at your shoot know that you were going to create an actual dead gaze and if so, would you allow to have that photo be used as your publicity shot? Cole Furlow decided to do this, and may have seen the end result, only to say “WTF? Let’s do this.”

 photo DeadGaze_old_zps2fe42c7b.jpg
Maybe that’s not why Furlow made the facial expression, but emotional glances aside, he is making some very good music that I’m sure he hopes you and everyone will enjoy when his debut album is released on October 22nd. Entitled Brain Holiday (FatCat/Palmist), maybe the expression is that of someone whose mind decided to take a vacation.

Or maybe not.

What we are sure of is that Dead Gaze creates a nice mixture of rock and pop that can be orchestral, if not celestial at times, and seems to grave infectious hooks and powerful riffs. I like this, and I hope you like it to with the song below, “Rowdy Jungle”. Perhaps the origins of rowdy jungles can happen when he hits the road next month with Dent May.

September 10… Tallahassee, FL (Downunder Club at FSU) *
September 12… New Orleans, LA (Gasa Gasa) *
