SOME STUFFS: Freddie Gibbs and Madlib making music history

Let’s get a few things cleared out of the way. Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are working together, maybe some of you are aware of this. They have a new EP coming out at the end of the month called Deeper (Madlib Invazion) with two new songs and two bonus beats. Check.

The two are hard at work on putting together a full length album, which they’re going to call PiƱata, with a scheduled release date of February 4, 2014. This will most likely be one of the more anticipated albums of 2014, of any month and season, because of those who will also be on it: Scarface, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester The Saint, G-Wiz, Danny Brown, Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech (of Flatbush Zombies), and Raekwon.

Even with the album five months away, they’re touring right now, or at least Freddie Gibbs is, Madlib might be in Venezuela checking out some caves for records but either way, this is where (t)he(y) will be, doing some Rock The Bells dates with some Australasian dates in between:

September 8… San Bernadino, CA (San Manuel Amphitheater – Rock the Bells)
September 14… Mountain View, CA… (Shoreline Amphitheater – Rock the Bells)
September 18… Fitzroy, Australia (Laundry Bar)
September 19… Wellington, New Zealand (James Cabaret)
September 20… Auckland, New Zealand (The Studio)
September 21-22… Sydney, Australia (OutsideIn Festival)
September 28… Washington, D.C. (RFK Stadium Festival Grounds – Rock the Bells)
October 4… East Rutherford, NJ (Meadowlands Racetrack Grass Infields – Rock the Bells)

VIDEO: A-Trak featuring Juicy J, Jim Jones, Flatbush Zombies, El-P & Flosstradamus’ “Piss Test (Remix)”

If there’s one word I had to use to describe the video for “Piss Test (Remix)”, it would be noodles. Pure noodles. That’s what A-Trak did when he brought together all of these rappers and MC’s to pull off a track that reeks of beer and crotch. It’s perfect for the club, it’s a pussy rhyme, and you’re sure to have a good time after hearing this one. As for El-P… oh man.

There’s a few cameos in this one, including one from a guy who used to insure that he would never wear the same underwear or socks twice. Get to that.

SOME STUFFS: Soundtrack for “The Man With The Iron Fists” is on its way

Photobucket
With Method Man releasing a brand new track for the soundtrack to The RZA’s movie The Man With The Iron Fists, the music and film is not only attracting attention for fans of the Wu-Tang Clan, but also action films, kung fu flick fanatics, along with Quentin Tarantino enthusiasts, as he is the one presenting The RZA’s film to a much broader audience than it would be if he did it on his own. Now more news about the forthcoming soundtrack. The movie will be released in theaters on November 2nd, while the soundtrack, still being assembled and finalized, will hit stores about 10 days before the film on October 23rd. A close-to-final track listing for the album has been released. My guess would be that most of these (if not all) will be on there, but I would not be surprised if there’s a bonus track or two, maybe iTunes-only, maybe a “track 0” on the CD, it is unknown. What is known? These tracks. As you can see, it’s not only new material from The RZA and Wu-Fam, but also some of his hip-hop friends along with a few songs tracks he has sampled in the last 20 years:
1. The Black Keys / RZA “The Baddest Man Alive”
2. Ghostface Killah / M.O.P / Pharoahe Monch “Black Out”
3. Kanye West “White Dress”
4. The Revelations feat. Tre Williams “I Forgot To Be Your Lover”
5. Talib Kweli / RES “Get Your Way (Sex as a Weapon)”
6. Raekwon / Ghostface Killah / Kool G. Rap “Rivers of Blood”
7. Method Man / Freddie Gibbs / StreetLife “Built for This”
8. 24 Carat Black “Poverty’s Paradise”
9. Killa Sin “The Archer”
10. RZA / Flatbush Zombies “Just Blowin’ In The Wind”
12. Corrine Bailey Rae “Chains”
13. Pusha T / Raekwon “Tick Tock”
14. Frances Yip “Green is the Mountain”
15. The Wu-Tang Clan “Six Directions of Boxing”
16. Mabel John “Your Good Thing Is About To End”

It has been said that these older soul tracks are “re-constructions” of the originals. It doesn’t say if The RZA had access to the Stax Records’ multi-tracks or if he obtained them directly from the masters, but it means you may be hearing them cut up a bit (i.e. remixed) with the Rzarector style.

Stay tuned.
