AUDIO: Body Parts’ “Unavoidable Things”

Indie pop may sound like an oxymoron, but when your style of pop is experimental or artful, I’m an open ear. When you cite Prince, Kate Bush, and L. Ron Hubbard as influences, I want to know more. Ryder Bach and Alina Cutrono are the center of Body Parts, the pulse that makes the organism sing and in this case dance, as their style of music also comes with a theatrical aspect when they perform in a live setting. You’ll be able to see them in a live setting with a small handful of shows in Los Angeles, and they’re doing this as a pathway towards the release of their debut album on Father/Daughter Records called Fire Dream. You may have a listen to their open door with “Unavoidable Things” and even with just audio, you can imagine other things happening. Some of those things may be seen at the shows listed below.

August 30… Los Angeles, CA (Skirball Cultural Center) #
September 20… Los Angeles, CA (Chinatown Summer Nights hosted by Kevin Bronson)
September 25… Los Angeles, CA (Bootleg Theater) $

# w/ Jenny O
$ w/ Susanne Sundfor

Fire Dream will be available on vinyl (in two color variations: black and white) and compact disc, and each one can be pre-ordered directly from Father/Daughter Records.

You may have heard of bands like Alabama Shakes, The Bronx, Allen Stone, Kodaline, Jenny O., Jim James, and Kate Earl, but may have wondered if any or all of them are worth listening to. Maybe all the heavy clutter of music out there has got you confused. There is a solution. Artists.MTV is a collaboration between three music cable networks, each of which are concentrating harder on presenting music online in a fashion that is much greater than their original TV counterparts. They’ve put together some of the best music that are worthy of your listening time.

Again, it’s free of charge so take part in it, download and enjoy. You may be able to turn someone on to the music or even better: yourself.

VIDEO: Jenny O.’s “Well OK Honey”

Jenny O. released this video last fall in support of the EP, Home but vinyl junkies, as always, were left out in the digital cold. No more, as Manimal Vinyl are releasing it as a 12″ EP on July 19th.

If you haven’t seen the video, there’s some really dorky-yet-not-so-oddly-sexy dancing in it, and ladies riding bicycles. This is awesome. For those in the Pacific Northwest, Jenny O. will be a part of the Dave Matthews Band Caravan this year. This traveling three-day music festival makes its first time on June 24th in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Jenny O. will be at The Gorge at George.
