SOME STUFFS: Big Sur to host Mollusk Jamboree next month

If you are a folk music fan/supporter/enthusiast, you’ll want to hear down to California on September 27th and 28th for a musical festival that sounds like it’s going to be a great time. Co-presented by (((folkYEAH!))), the Mollusk Big Sur Jamboree, to be held at the Fernwood Resort, will consist of “two days of music, camping and ensuing fun”. Some of the artists scheduled to perform includ Sonny & The Sunsets, The Autumn Defense, Allah-Las, Vetiver, Beachwood Sparks, and a planned supergroup lead by Cass McCombs, plus many more, perhaps a few guests and surprises. Also planned are a few “secret late night jam sessions”, not sure what may be involved in that other than music, but I’d be open to checking it out if I could.

A major highlight will be a screen dedicated to showing classic and contemporary surf films, since it is in Big Sur. The festival encourages people to bring their own food and drink, even though both will be available on the festival site. A lot more will be involved, and you are now able to buy 2-day camping or room packages for your stay. For more information, check the Mollusk Jamboree page or (((folkYEAH!)))’s home page.

RECORD CRACK: The Grateful Dead embraced by Neal Casal for forthcoming Record Store Day 45

The Royal Potato Family will be releasing a 7″ by Neal Casal for Record Store Day this year. While the B-side is an instrumental called “Grimes’ Surf Story”, the A-side will be a treat for Deadheads, for it features a cover of “Mountains Of The Moon”.

Each song will feature keyboardist Adam MacDougall, Casal’s bandname in the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, who also happens to do double duty as the Black Crowes’ current key man. As for the record itself, here is the picture sleeve:

As for why Casal is releasing this 45, it’s because he too is a vinyl junkie:
Record stores, what can I say except, GO to record stores! Don’t sit home and buy music online, actually get off your ass and go to record stores. Buy records. Keep record stores alive, don’t let them die, buy music from real people at real record stores. That’s Record Store Day.

Indeed. Head to your favorite record store on April 20th and if you find a copy of this, pick up a copy. Doubles, if possible.

SOME STUFFS: Neal Casal more than willing to “Sweeten The Distance”

Neal Casal will be releasing his 10th album on April 10th, and this one is called Sweeten The Distance (The Royal Potato Family). If you’ve been a fan of his work, or the music he has made with Ryan Adams & The Cardinals and or The Chris Robinson Brotherhood will enjoy his brand of downhome Americana where you are able to smell the wood.

While you wait, listen to one of the tracks, called “Need Shelter”.
