VIDEO: Wild Leaves’ “Open Sky”

This Brooklyn group may be called creators of psych-folk, and to be honest I hear both qualities of that equation too but I hear a bit more than just that. Wild Leaves have a new 4-song EP out called Hello Sunlight and from it is a very cool and polished video that sums up what they and their music is about. This one is called “Open Sky” and if it doesn’t make you feel more optimistic about yourself and the world, listen to it again. Then again. For those with a keen ear, the album was recorded on analog tape in Brooklyn at Saltland Studio with engineer/mixer Robert Mallory, who has worked with Kings Of Leon and Paul McCartney in the past). The entire project was mastered by Matthew Agoglia, known for his work with Wavves and Spoon. It’s an earfest, basically.

RECORD CRACK: Savaging Spires to release an album before an album

 photo SavagingSpires_cover_zps8e23ffac.jpg
Savaging Spires are ready to release their second album in the new year called Horizon, with the lead track being “We Should Be Dead (Together)”, which you can stream or download (as a WAV file) below. Before they do that, they’ve decided to put together an 11-track album which will feature previously unreleased songs, exclusive to it. In a way, the new album would also feature previously unreleased tracks but this is stuff that they had done before but wasn’t released in a proper fashion until now. This 11-track album, also called We Should Be Dead (Together) (Critical Heights), will be pressed up as a 12″ record in January. Consider it a maxi-maxi-single or something.

VIDEO: Beachwood Sparks’ “Make It Together”

If you liked the song when I posted it two month ago, you may want to see how it was done up for your eye holes. This is Beachwood Sparks taking “Make It Together” and turning it into eye candy. If you want more tracks, you’ll have to wait another 10 days before Alive Naturalsound Records releases Desert Skies. It can be pre-ordered on MP3, vinyl, or CD (in that order) below via Amazon.

Los Angeles’ Beachwood Sparks released a self-titled album, but it was technically not their first. They’re going to fix the situation by releasing their previously unreleased debut album on the 26th of November through Alive Naturalsound Records. The album is called Desert Skies, and it has been remastered so you do not have to hear what the group perhaps did not want you to hear (or maybe the issue was “if we can master this better, let’s do it”, and they did.) “Make It Together” is a song from the album to come, and you may stream it below. The group has a nice sound that mixes 60’s folk rock with 70’s pop rock, and would fit in alongside Wilco, Weezer, and Pixies.

VIDEO: Moodoïd’s “De Folie Pure”

Almost a month to the day, I presented you a nice video by Moodoïd called “Je suis la Montagne”. Right now, I’d like to present to you another song and video from this French group with a piece called “De Folie Pure”. The song is from their self-titled EP, which was released today. If you prefer your music on vinyl, the EP will be relased as a limited edition (only 200 copies) 12″, available through Third Side Records in France.

FREE MP3 DL: The Visibles’ “Clarendon Hills”

With a nice poppy folk twist to their sound, The Visibles are gearing up for the release of their self-titled, self-produced debut album that they’re going to unload to the world on September 10th. Have a listen to a track from it called “Clarendon Hills”, which one publication stated has a Marc Bolan/T. Rex vibe, but see if you agree.

Or better yet, if the song rocks you, they’ll be doing a small handful of shows very soon, they may be in your area:
September 6… San Francisco, CA (Rickshaw Stop) (LP Release Party)
September 21… Fairfax, CA (19 Broadway)
October 24… San Francsico, CA (Eagle Tavern)

VIDEO: Moodoïd’s “Je suis la Montagne”

Director Jérôme Walter was perhaps the right choice when creating the video for “Je suis la Montagne”, a new song by Paris’ Moodoïd. Created by Pablo Padovani, Moodoïd has every intention on being heard by those who seek quality sounds, and those quality sounds will be represented with the release of his debut EP on Les Disques Enterprise.

You may know Moodoïd as the guitarist for Melody’s Echo Chamber, but he has been wanting to expand his sound outside of those confines in order to show and share more of his talents, and he’ll do so with the EP. The first single from The EP is a song called “Je suis la Montagne” (“I am The Mountain”), the video of which you may view above. The forthcoming release will be available digitally as well as a 12″, only 200 copies have been made. You may pre-order it from France through Third Side Records.

Moodoïd will be playing his first show in the UK at the Ooh La La Festival in London on October 21st so if you attend, make him feel welcome.
