SOME STUFFS: New Black Moth Super Rainbow album on its way in 2016

The good mates of the almighty Black Moth Super Rainbow are currently recording new songs for what will become a new album, their 6th effort. Hard to believe it’s only their 6th album but Tobacco has been busy over the years, throwing out group and solo EP’s every now and then to the point where it’s hard to keep track. BMSR are organizing an album they’re calling SeeFu Lilac, described as “neon flavored outtakes from a 6th album that doesn’t yet exist” but they’ve posted one song on the Bandcamp page for the album. Listen to it, then pre-order it. Don’t just consider buying it, do it and just want impatiently.

Need another juicer? Check out a song just posted a few hours ago called “DVD Sweetener”.

REVIEW: Fur For Fairies’ self titled debut album

Fur For Fairies photo FurForF_cover_zpsjs2tss8t.jpg Susanne Kelly is the founder of Fur For Fariries and if the name sounds familiar, you may know her husband, Green Pajamas member Jeff Kelly. While Jeff Kelly is credited as producer and author of all of the songs, Susanne makes it hers and creates a world that is unique in itself but free to listen to it with the perspective of what Jeff Kelly is known for. On their self-titled debut, Susanne sings these songs that is not unlike the devotion one normally expects in works by Polly Jean Harvey, Karen O., and Kim Shattuck. Musically, Jeff Kelly goes everywhere from blunt rock to bluesy dirges, with some of the Seattle influences being somewhat obvious if you know what you’re listening to/for. In fact, as someone who has lived in the Pacific Northwest for a long time, Fur For Fairies very much sounds like a Seattle album, even though there isn’t a stereotypical Seattle sound. It just sounds like the kind of music that may have been written in the fall, made specifically during the winter, then mixed and mastered during the spring. When Susanne reaches deep into lyrics like “I feel like a boy, you feel like a girl/I bet you would taste just like the end of the end”, it is almost as if Jeff was writing directly for his wife, or you could say Susanne was saying “okay Jeff, I dare you to write what you think I’m thinking”. This is the end result. It sounds like the perfect music that is meant for times like this, where you just want to listen and phase out the rest of the world, just to be able to bathe in the textures and surroundings of these compositions. At least that’s what I think.

COVERED: David Peel vs. Mild High Club

COVERED: David Peel vs. Mild High Club photo COVERED-PeelMildHigh_covers_zps228ebce7_1.jpg
This edition of my COVERED column, I like because it seems so out of the loop but someone did it. David Peel was singer and musician who spoke for the counter-culture and in support of the hippie community and marijuana. He was very much “anti-man”, in that he did not like what authority was doing to take things away. He was signed by Elektra Records and came out with the Have A Marijuana album. While the mainstream didn’t embrace him in full, since he was anti-mainstream, the album managed to go as high (literaly) as #187 on the Billboard album chart before falling off. He was also signed by The Beatles’ Apple label and came out with The Pope Smokes Dope.

Mild High School is a group of sorts, and I say “of sorts” because this is a project from a mind of Alexander Brettin, a Chicago musician who is living in Los Angeles and hoping to make his talents known by being signed to Stones Throw. He just came out with a single called “Windowpane” b/w “Weeping Willow”, the picture sleeve of which is an ode to the Have A Marijuana album. Brettin/Mild High School will be releasing a full length album later this year but for now, have a listen to the A-side of the “Windowpane” single below.

VIDEO: Tomorrows Tulips’ “Papers By The TV”

Tomorrows Tulips just released a new album called When so for fans of garage-y pop kindness, have a look at a video that seems to go quick and easy, but it’s a pleasant quick and easy. You can order the When album directly from Burger Records in all good and trendy formats, or below via Amazon.

SOME STUFFS: Li Xi twist pop to their advantage with debut album

 photo LiXi_old_zps33650d25.jpg
Li Xi will be releasing their debut album very soon called Meet Me Somewhere, which will be a demonstration of how they mix up different styles of pop with surf music, psychedelic overtones, and trippy dynamics. This San Francisco group will be out with their album on October 15th and they’re not slowing down, for they’re already working on album number two. They’re not waiting for a critical response, they’re just going to play what they love and find their path in this amazing maze. Have a listen to “Pluto”, taken from their album, and get trapped into their flower power tinge of pop.

The band have two shows in their immediate future:
October 23… San Francisco, CA (The Regency Ballroom) ɸ
October 28… San Francisco, CA (Amnesia) ɳ
ɸ = w/ Metronomy & Dawn Golden
ɳ = w/ Haunted Summer

FREE MP3 DL: SCRNS’ “TTYN”

 photo SCRNS_cover_zpsa90621c6.jpg
“TTYN” (free download, 8.8mb) is the new single by Minneapolis’ SCRNS, who consist of bassist Mat Patrek and vocalist Eric Ross and together they’re making music that they hope will blow heads, with self-proclaimed claims of being “ethereal and wildly original” featuring a “playful teenage vocal style”. What does that mean? I don’t know, but let’s find out together.

VIDEO: Moodoïd’s “De Folie Pure”

Almost a month to the day, I presented you a nice video by Moodoïd called “Je suis la Montagne”. Right now, I’d like to present to you another song and video from this French group with a piece called “De Folie Pure”. The song is from their self-titled EP, which was released today. If you prefer your music on vinyl, the EP will be relased as a limited edition (only 200 copies) 12″, available through Third Side Records in France.
