RECORD CRACK: Forthcoming book looks at the importance of the 7 inch 45 rpm single

Five Hundred 45s: A Graphic History of the Seven-Inch Record (Collins Design) is a forthcoming book due out on June 1st by Spencer Drate and Judith Salavetz, but it’s done from a unique perspective: its design. Despite the smaller and arguably limited dynamic of a 7 inch record, cover designers explored those limitations and often made it an artform without most people being aware of it.

RECORD CRACK: Putting & filing away records as fun (Part I)

Filing records away (February 15, 2010) from John Book on Vimeo.

This may be one of the most boring videos you will ever see. It is not of me going on my Thrift Store Adventures, but rather me putting away some records. I had bought some protective bags for them and felt a stupid need to simply show them off. No major finds, so don’t go in this expecting to see some unopened Eddie Bo shipment boxes or anything. This is also my first time using Vimeo, which normally has videos of quality but I blame that on having quality cameras. I simply used my Flip camera. This includes narration from me.

NOTE: If you’re wondering that Tobacco song I’m attempting to sing at the 4:20, it’s this one. Also, the Vitamix articles I mention in the video can be read here.

Thrift Store Adventures: December 28, 2008, Walla Walla, WA

This is my first video Thrift Store Adventures that I created using a Flip video camera I received for Christmas.

For this first video installment, my ohana wanted to go to Walla Walla, Washington (about a 45 minute drive East) to pick up a television for my nephew that he received as a gift. I made sure that I would go to a thrift store on this trip, and I had hoped to go to the Blue Mountain thrift store and Goodwill, but the Blue Mountain store is closed on Sundays (I did not know).

I drove around the corner to Goodwill and these are the results. This is unedited, so pardon the tentative mess. While I’m not in this video, my nephew is. Once I’m able to make these videos look a bit more decent, I’ll record myself.
