Is The Is Are and you are for what is could be um what may be the kind of conversation that would confuse people, but Is The Is Are is the name of the album by DIIV, who have released what is described as ‘the 4th song from” it called “Dopamine.” You may have it to hear as the jingle-jangle instrumentation coats itself over the wonderful harmonies and melodies.

BEST OF 2012: My favorite music videos of the year

Let me say this off the top: this is not a list of every single music video that was made in 2012. Making a video is now the norm these days, and at times the amount of videos I have a chance in posting is overwhelming. What this is is a listing of my favorites of music videos I have seen and enjoyed. It could be due to the artist, it could be due to the song, it could be a mixture of both, plus some visuals that I found pleasing to my eyes and thus the mind. I did not have a specific video I felt was the absolute best, but I felt these stood out for whatever reason.

VIDEO: Rhye’s “The Fall (Live)”

It may look like a simple viewing of a movie shot on a super 8mm camera, and along with movement comes browsing through an old photo album, but those two things lead to memories, both fond and sad. That’s the subject of Rhye’s video for “The Fall”, as the visuals touch on longing for someone, perhaps someone close to us, or perhaps some of the people in the video looking back at those who they loved and lost, leading to the realization that we too are becoming individuals that someone will long for, hopefully fondly, when it is our time to depart.

The song will be released as a single, with an album due out sometime in 2013.

What I like about this is that it sounds like the kind of adventurous music you could hear on a college radio station (that is, stations where the DJ actually chooses what (s)he plays) combine with elements of disco. I hear influences of Chic and the Andrea True Connection in here, not sure if that was the intention but it works for me. “The Fall” is the title track from Rhye’s forthcoming EP due out on October 6th via Innovative Leisure/Seven Four, so dance, groove, or fingerbob.

They’re hard at work creating a wealth of music, the best of which will become their debut album in 2013. Tune stayed.

VIDEO: Rhye’s “Open”

This music video is romantic and sexy, but it’s also NSFW, so if stuff like this is not acceptable at your place of employment or school, I would suggest waiting until you go home to see this. However, if you’re about to watch it on your own cell, iPod or iPad and your place of employment doesn’t archive any ingoing/outgoing data that comes and goes on their server, then by all means view.

Will watching this video enough times make you enjoy the song? That might be the lure. The video was directed by Jennifer Nies, so thank her for any tingles you may feel. Enjoy.
