AUDIO: Widowspeak’s “The Dark Age”

The cover looks very 70’s, but the music sounds very 80’s/early 90’s. They are the male/female duo Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas, known from this point on as Widowspeak, who add a dreamy landscape to their rocking sound. The two are releasing an album on January 22, 2013 via Captured Tracks called Almanac, and “The Dark Age” is the first burst of sound you’ll hear from it.

If you like what you’re here and you’re in/near the following cities, you can check them out in a live setting:

December 14… Brooklyn, NY (St. Vitus (Hurricane Sandy benefit show presented by Pitchfork) Β₯
January 22, 2013… New York, NY (Mercury Lounge)
January 23, 2013… Philadelphia, PA (Kung Fu Necktie)

SOME STUFFS: The Men have the key to “Open Your Heart”

You ever heard of The Men? No? Get to know them soon.

The band will be releasing their next album on March 6th via Sacred Bones called Open Your Heart, and this is what the cover’ll look like:

This is The Men’s third album, and this NYC-based band are ready to mix it up as they have for their first two. They are independent, they are rock, but if the term “indie rock” has a stigma, these guys tend to fondle it, tickle it, and kick it in the abdomen. Not bad for a band who are willing to do everything from garage to hardcore, death metal to whatever the hell they feel like doing at any given moment.

The day after the album’s release, they’ll touch base with their home fans in Brooklyn before making their way to next year’s SXSW, which should help to generate interest for the summer. If you are a fan of The Men, you have to wait about twelve weeks for Open Your Heart to, well, open your heart (and ears).
