VIDEO: Odonis Odonis’ “Are We Friends”

The audio and visuals in “Are We Friends” is straight out of the 1980’s, when you could harden up your sound with mechanical beats and create a video by fooling around with your cable box. Dean Tzenos, Denholm Whale and Jarod Gibson know exactly what they’re doing, and as Odonis Odonis they’re going to take those things to CMJ next week. They’ll hit the road in Canada for a small handful of shows in late November:

October 17… New York, NY (Shea Stadium) (IMPOSE + Terroreyes + The Needle Drop showcase) ~
October 18… New York, NY (Santos Party House) (Rice and Cheese showcase) ^
October 19… New York, NY (2 Havemeyer St.) (My Social List day party) *
November 29… Hamilton, ON (Baltimore House) #
November 30… London, ON (APT) #
December 1… Kitchener, ON (NEW FWEST) #

This is not the new face or look of pop, but rather the little acknowledged appearance of pop, if not one that people have denied. Looking at him, you might say “Nick Koenig definitely fits into his name”, which is why he makes and releases music as Hot Sugar. He just came out with an album-length EP called Man Made, featuring appearances from the likes of Heems, Open Mike Eagle, Big Baby Gandhi, KOOL AD, Antwon, and many others, and if you are a fany of them, you will be pleasantly surprised at what everyone has contributed here.

SOME STUFFS: Weekend make music for their namesake

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This San Francisco band is not even a year old, and yet are ready to deliver their brand of what is being called “post-punk noise rock”, which can only be a plus. They’re called Weekend, and their album on Slumberland will be called Sports (due out November 9th). It has nothing to do with Huey Lewis & The News, but like Huey, Weekend would probably be happy for their music to be stuck with you. Find out if it will be by checking out a song from their album which may represent the last few months for you perfectly, called “Coma Summer” (12.37mb, right click and “save as”.)

Weekend will have a show on their home turf next week before doing a small West Coast tour when the album is released. Punch them into your digital device of choice, this is where they’ll be:
09.15: San Francisco, CA – Elbo Room
11.04: Vancouver, BC – The Venue %
11.05: Seattle, WA – The Vera Project %
11.06: Portland, OR – Reed College %
11.07: Eugene, OR – EMU Ballroom %
11.09: San Francisco, CA – The Independent %
11.10: Oxnard, CA – Fresh and Fabulous Cafe %
