Tomboy (Paw Tracks) is the forthcoming album from Panda Bear, and this is what the cover art will look like. It is currently scheduled for release on April 12th. It was originally going to be released on the 19th, but was pushed up a week so that it would be released in time for Record Store Day on April 16th. In other words, Americans who pay their taxes and get a healthy refund can spend lavishly on new music, including new Panda Bear. First pressings of the vinyl will be on colored vinyl, so if the demand is great and they have to do a second press, you may have a collectible. But don’t buy records just because they may be collectible, it’s about absorbing the music in a quality fashion. Speaking of which, the album will be masterered at Abbey Road Studio in London, using the Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) technique. In other words: quality (click here for information on the DMM process.)
The cover art for this and all singles for the album, is by Scott Mou. Mou is a member of the band Jane, which also features Panda Bear’s Noah Lennox, who you may also know from the band Animal Collective. It almost looks like a dosing tab or something you’d might find at a downtown store, only to find the paper had some LSD soaked into it. Maybe that’s what the music will be like, a dose of that shit you’re not supposed to take, but what can you do? It’s too late, it’s in your bloodstream.
Word has it that Tomboy will be more guitar and synthesizer based, opposed to the sampled sounds on previous works. While track listings are meant to be more informative than anything else (and really, what else can you do with a track listing), here is one for Tomboy:
01 You Can Count on Me
03 Slow Motion
04 Surfer’s Hymn
05 Last Night at The Jetty
07 Alsatian Darn
09 Friendship Bracelet
Save up, prepare, and wait for the Panda Bear dosage.
