REVIEW: Generic Concession Stand’s “Restoration”

The last time around, I had said the music of Generic Concession Stand had a bit of a “nu-metal” vibe but with their new Restoration EP, I’m hearing metal on a more crusty vibe on a Buzzov•en level, and I’m loving it. What I also like is the punk vibe that can be felt within the vocals, and while I would have loved the sound quality of the vocal tracks to be up to par with the music (but that’s my producer ear at work), this sounds like something you’d hear if you went into their basement or practice shed. When the songs offer up a light hip-hop vibe, they do it quite well, making sure they do it the way they want to without sounding like others who have blended the two styles.

The best song has to be the incredible title track, which adds a slight progressive metal groove by bringing in different textures, tempos, and paces in a six minute time period, where it feels like if they wanted to get into Voivod or System Of A Down mode, they could. Restoration simply makes me want to wait around to hear more.

SOME STUFFS: New single by Hot As Sun is released today

Hot As Sun are a duo-now-band who have released a new single today called “Come Come”, featuring a remix of the song by Tokyo Police Club. Hot As Sun are signed to Last Gang Records, and you can listen to the remix below.

“Come Come” and its complimentary remix will also appear on their forthcoming, self-titled EP due out June 19th, with a full length album scheduled for sometime this fall.

RECORD CRACK: Audio Fidelity to release Ten Years After “A Space In Time” on 180g vinyl

The success of Steve Hoffman‘s remaster of Ten Years After‘s A Space In Time on compact disc has lead to Audio Fidelity to press it up on 180g audiophile quality vinyl, but this time getting Kevin Gray to do it for vinyl. The album will be released on June 5th.

Vinyl junkies will know this record all too well, for it’s not only one of the more famous Ten Years After albums, but because of it’s popularity, it’s easy to find at thrift stores, charity shops, and garage sales. The condition of those records found may not be up to par, but if it is your personal favorite, you’ll be able to hear the Kevin Gray remaster on your format of choice. VIDEO: Kreator’s “Phantom Antichrist”

Speed metal fans are true to their favorite bands, and Kreator are a group who I have loved since high school. Word about a new album in 2012 made me go “OH SHIT!”, and further proof can be heard and seen in their video for the title track to Phantom Antichrist. The Germans always do their metal incredibly well, and this song is no exception.

As you can see below, the album will be released on see-through yellow vinyl. Phantom Antichrist will be released on June 5th.
