 photo CampFlogGnaw3rd_poster_zps2dfe9f38.jpg
The 3rd Annual Camp Flog Gnaw Festival has been announced, with tickets to be made available to the public tomorrow (Friday, August 8th) and what you see is not a joke: Pharrell Williams will be headlining this year, hat and all. Also scheduled to attend include people like Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs, MURS, Rick Ross, Mac Miller, and such Odd Future folks like Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, The Internet, Domo Genesis, and many more. Early bird tickets can be purchased directly from Camp Flog Gnaw.

Oh yeah: as for where it will be, it’ll be held again at The Park at Los Angeles Coliseum on November 8th.

SOME STUFFS: Stream new album, watch new video by MellowHigh

Extinguisher from MellowHigh on Myspace.

You get the Left Brain, move to the right and you get Domo Genesis, go right in the middle to find Hodgy Beats, and it remains Odd Future and its forever growing stems. As MellowHigh, the crew have new music and shows to come but for now, you can watch their brand new video for “Extinguisher”, which is hot like fire similar to Aaliyah.

You want to hear the album right now? You got it.

AUDIO: Mellowhigh’s “Extinguisher”

We’re about two weeks away from the release of Mellowhigh’s self-titled album, and they’ve released another song to keep fans waiting and satisfied, but is it justified? It’s just a way to rhyme, which is what Mellowhigh are about. Listen to extinguisher, and remember to check them out when their tour begins next week, dates availablehere.

SOME STUFFS: MellowHigh tease you with sound from new album to come

 photo MellowHigh_cover_zps16b657b9.jpg
“Yu” is a song from the forthcoming album by Left Brain, Hodgy Beats, and Domo Genesis, due out…eventually. (Actually, the new release will be out on Halloween.)

Before the album is released, the MellowHigh gentlemen were invited over to Russell Simmons’ house for a bit of yoga. It’s an excerpt from an episode of Odd World to be shown on Simmons’ new YoUTube channel, All Def Digital. Yes, the same channel that had the Harriet Tubman “sex tape”, but fortunately that shit has been removed.

What will not be removed, unless there are changes made, are forthcoming MellowHigh tour dates:

October 24… Dallas, TX (Club Dada)
October 25… Austin, TX (Red 7)
October 26… El Paso, TX (Tricky Falls)
October 27… Albuquerque, NM (Sunshine Theatre)
October 29… Tucson, AZ (Club Congress)
October 30… Scottsdale, AZ (Pub Rock)

SOME STUFFS: Freddie Gibbs and Madlib making music history

 photo FreddieGibbs_old_zps64199fb3.jpg
Let’s get a few things cleared out of the way. Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are working together, maybe some of you are aware of this. They have a new EP coming out at the end of the month called Deeper (Madlib Invazion) with two new songs and two bonus beats. Check.

The two are hard at work on putting together a full length album, which they’re going to call Piñata, with a scheduled release date of February 4, 2014. This will most likely be one of the more anticipated albums of 2014, of any month and season, because of those who will also be on it: Scarface, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester The Saint, G-Wiz, Danny Brown, Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech (of Flatbush Zombies), and Raekwon.

Even with the album five months away, they’re touring right now, or at least Freddie Gibbs is, Madlib might be in Venezuela checking out some caves for records but either way, this is where (t)he(y) will be, doing some Rock The Bells dates with some Australasian dates in between:

September 8… San Bernadino, CA (San Manuel Amphitheater – Rock the Bells)
September 14… Mountain View, CA… (Shoreline Amphitheater – Rock the Bells)
September 18… Fitzroy, Australia (Laundry Bar)
September 19… Wellington, New Zealand (James Cabaret)
September 20… Auckland, New Zealand (The Studio)
September 21-22… Sydney, Australia (OutsideIn Festival)
September 28… Washington, D.C. (RFK Stadium Festival Grounds – Rock the Bells)
October 4… East Rutherford, NJ (Meadowlands Racetrack Grass Infields – Rock the Bells)

REVIEW: Earl Sweatshirt’s “Doris”

photo EarlSweatshirt_cover_zpsefe26875.jpg Weeks before Earl Sweatshirt released Doris (Tan Cressida/Columbia), it was already being discussed, rated, critiqued and panned. When the album leaked, it made thousands of people want to hear it and continue the discussion, ratings, critiques and pans. I wanted to wait until after the first wave of reviews came in before I wanted to talk about it. Now we are here.

Doris is an album spoken from the mind of a young man who has something to say and feels a need to say it and be heard. He talks about smoking and getting high a bit, but he doesn’t celebrate it like some other rappers do. It’s just something that is there, but the core of his songs has to do with the days in the life of Earl, whether it’s getting a bit of sleazy quick loving from ladies or trying to not stay bored. With his stories, Earl will always make it sound enticing as if he’s getting away with something he’s not supposed to do, but he’ll sometimes touch on consequences or what he could/should be doing that may help him use his time a bit better. He does this in an occasional laid back style that brings back memories of the old L.A. flows, or even something close to what Andre 3000 is about, where a steady stream of consciousness seems like it could go on and on without ever getting bored from what he has to say.

Like with anything OFWGKTA does, Earl Sweatshirt is his own man that simply fits in with the freedom of him being him. Doris is another entry from a community of fellow rappers, producers, and singers that helped to form a new era of hip-hop in the same way Run-DMC did in 1984 and LL Cool J did in 1985, and that helps to make people deny a new era and frame of mind is in effect.

FREE MP3 DL: The Jet Age Of Tomorrow’s “The Jellyfish Mentality”

 photo JetAgeTJM_cover_zps83570e49.jpg
The people of the Odd Future collective are now trying to tell people about The Jellyfish Mentality, and what goes on in the mind when that mentality is embraced. In truth, it’s a new album by The Jet Age Of Tomorrow, a team consisting of Hal Williams and Matt Martians. The both of them bring together the likes of Mike G. Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, Earl Sweatshirt, Syd The Kyd, SBTRKT, and Midtown Pat, Mac Miller, Speak, Casey Veggies, Kilo Kish, The Stepkids, Vince Staples, and Jesse Boykins III, and who knows who else was squeezed into this Mentality they speak of.

BEST OF 2012: My favorite music videos of the year

Let me say this off the top: this is not a list of every single music video that was made in 2012. Making a video is now the norm these days, and at times the amount of videos I have a chance in posting is overwhelming. What this is is a listing of my favorites of music videos I have seen and enjoyed. It could be due to the artist, it could be due to the song, it could be a mixture of both, plus some visuals that I found pleasing to my eyes and thus the mind. I did not have a specific video I felt was the absolute best, but I felt these stood out for whatever reason.
